PMAY G

The Cabinet approved extending the government’s flagship housing-for-all scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY G), from March 2021 to March 2024, in order to meet the 2.95 crore housing target.
The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, stated that financial assistance would be provided for the construction of the remaining 155.75 lakh dwellings as of March 31, 2021.
“By extending the scheme until March 2024, the remaining 155.75 lakh households will be able to receive assistance for the construction of pucca houses with basic amenities, thereby achieving the goal of ‘Housing for All’ in rural areas,” the Cabinet said.

What is PMAY G?

The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana — Gramin (PMAY-G) was established to aid in the implementation of the “Housing for All” initiative. The central government has set a deadline of 2024 for the completion of the ‘Housing for All’ project.

The main goal of the PMAY-G program is to provide pucca housing with some basic amenities. This program is designed for people who do not own a home and live in kutcha houses or homes that have been severely damaged. The minimum size of homes to be built under the PMAY-G program has been raised from 20 to 25 square meters.

Key Features of the PMAY Gramin Scheme

The following are some of the key features of the PMAYG system:

The project is entirely funded by the Centre for Union Territories, which includes Ladakh’s UT.

MGNREGS pays recipients Rs.90.95 per day of unskilled labour.

Gram Sabhas identify and verify beneficiaries using criteria from the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC).
